Basil Flakes
Basil is an annual, or sometimes perennial, herb used for its leaves. Depending on the variety, plants can reach heights of between 30 and 150 cm (1 and 5 ft). Its leaves are richly green and ovate, but otherwise come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes depending on cultivar. Basil is one of the most popular herbs around the world, used in Indian, Thai, Chinese, Mediterranean and just about any cuisine under the sun. Basil grows best in hot, dry conditions, which is why Essential Spices dried basil from Egypt is one of the best varieties in the world. It has a highly savory taste thanks to highly concentrated volatile oil contents. These give it it's lovely savory flavor, comparable to oregano, celery, carrots and cilantro. Our most popular use for these is slow cooking in a lasagna, and also sprinkling on top of freshly baked pizzas.
